A Note From the Composer:
I had the honor of having a choral piece performed at the National American Choral Directors Association conference in early 2023. After the performance occurred, I was able to connect with many other educators, composers, and performers who wanted to learn more about my music. One of those people was PJ Woolston, who is a bassoon player. He wanted to commission a piece for him and his wife, Rachelle, who is a soprano vocalist! Needless to say, I had never written a piece for bassoon and soprano voice before, but I was up for the challenge. Maiden x Dragon was the result, and not only was it my first piece of this instrumentation, it also turned out to be my first entry in the “fantasy” genre, considering the text of the piece. I had lots of fun writing the two parts, where the soprano is the voice of the maiden, and the bassoon is the voice of the dragon in the story. PJ and Rachelle premiered Maiden x Dragon about a year later in the Spring of 2024 at the University of Indiana, Indianapolis.
