A Note From the Composer:
Confession time: I didn’t mean to write a sea-themed piece. In fact (even bigger confession time), I don’t usually mean to write any specifically-themed piece when I begin a project. Say what you want about the best method for having compositional “direction,” but the honest truth is that the opening melody of Full Sails came to me, and then I wrote what just “felt right.” Before I knew what I had gotten myself into, I was surrounded by crashing waves, the smell of sea salt, and even the faint sound of a pirate ship’s cannons going off in the distance. What was meant to be a simple entry into a composition contest in Illinois became an exploration of a vast expanse of water. It was quite an adventure to behold. Now, it’s your turn – the sea is calling you, and the sails are ready to be hoisted!
