A Note From the Composer:
I had just graduated high school, and my grandparents generously gifted me with my own laptop. That meant I was free to use computer notation software whenever I wanted! There was no longer a need to ask permission to use the family laptop when I wanted to work on some music. I could also download better soundfonts since I wouldn’t be taking up “family computer space.” The first melody I wrote with my newfound technological independence and enhanced sound quality was the one primarily featured in Epica. However, like most of the pieces I began as a young composer, it was left unfinished and collected dust in my digital files until I finally came back to complete it a year-and-a-half later. I entered it in a contest for the Greater Twin Cities Youth Orchestra in Minnesota, and was delighted to find out it had been a runner-up. The experience made me realize that you never know the potential your long-time unfinished projects could be holding – all you have to do is look back, stick with it, and discover!
