A Note From the Composer:
I have much gratitude to the places and people that contributed to my personal growth, and there is rarely a day when I don’t think about them. Hardin-Simmons University is one of those places. Towards the end of the Summer of 2023, I began writing a piece that came out of a reflection of my time as a student at the HSU School of Music and a vision of what I felt the LORD had in store for the university going forward. About a month later, Dr. Dee Romines, Director of Choral Activities at HSU, was talking to me about the 100th Anniversary of the Caldwell Music Hall on campus, which was on September 21st of that year. That was when we had the idea to premiere a piece in celebration of the occasion – and I had just the right one in the works. The piece is a testament to the LORD’s faithfulness, even when we don’t always see or understand it. It draws a parallel between hearing the LORD’s voice and hearing music. It is also a representation of how we should choose to sing praises to Him – even when we don’t feel His presence. I Will Sing was premiered by the combined choirs at Hardin-Simmons University on December 4th, 2023 in Woodward-Dellis Recital Hall.
